After playing for awhile now on Zeeks I noticed something odd, its actually easier to survive here in many ways than in single player, mainly because the abundance of re-spawned food and items.
I originally created my char on Zeeks thinking this would be a brutal deathmatch not only against other players, but also against the environment, and I would be hard pressed to fill my stomach, surviving mainly through foraging, fishing, farming etc. and that finding a pristine unopened can of food would be like winning the lottery. The opposite is true though. There is an overabundance of canned and jarred food around, a high respawn of refrigerated items, and no shortage of snacks to have your char munch on all the time like chocolate bars and chips. Disinfectant and alcohol wipes are more common than zombies in many places. It's not hard to check some isolated places on a regular basis and just keep picking up what they have. I now have multiple containers full of food that will never rot. Unlimited medical supplies, 10 axes, and more ammo than I know what to do with.
Honestly it makes the game less interesting with so much stuff.... Some of the most fun ive had in single player games are where the food from the places around my safehouse starts to dwindle, im holed up in my safe area, leg splinted up from a fracture, zombies banging on the door and my char is now officially hungry but with no food. Hard and fun choices then have to be made. Do i try to wait out the zombies? Do i make a break for it with my limp hoping I will find the motherload of canned food in another part of town? Should I, a former fitness instructor, try my hand at subsistence farming? Or just reduce myself to eating berries and leaves from the forest just to stay alive? None of these choices ever enter my mind in MP though because of the high food/item respawn rate. Besides zombies and other players, hunger should be one of the main battles in MP server. I've never ONCE had to resort to eating dogfood here in MP, something which occurs quite often in single player.
My suggestion is to significantly lower the item respawn rate. Not only would it made the game harder but also more fun in ways by bringing back some of the cool strategic elements of single player, but it would encourage more player conflict fighting over the precious few respawned resources while also encouraging more character specialization for those who want to group up but focus for example on fishing or farming.
Thoughts?
