Wauw man this is great stuff, I really was wondering about a lot of the stuff you explained here.
Gonna find me a saw and lighten my shotgun a little bit. Dat range on the sawn off + improved choke tube.

Thanks for the testing, though I have to ask something regarding the scopes. Don't they increase minimum range as well, so there would be a break at the start for them?

I'll be sleuthing through some data files and adding that info soon - maybe editing it into the images or some such. But you are correct - don't use an x8 scope on a hunting rifle if you're running around the city! EDIT: If I'm not mistaken, you can actually hit targets below the minimum distance, but the hit-chance falls off substantially

Love this research, looking forward to analyzing the pipe bombs/molotovs/motion sensors in v32.

ow btw maybe you can include damage that each gun does? (not trying to give you more work but just for completions sake).
Im sure the community can pitch in in research.

Damage, I believe, is based on rolls. A lot of factors go into the amount of damage a gun does. Which is why some people survive point blank shotgun blasts from time to time, or a bullet in the head. I am sure there's an algorithm that could be referenced, but with so many variables to consider (thick skin, luck, aim lvls, first aid lvls, and more) speaking of which i did found out that a high first aid increases resilience to the initial damage taken too. Not just for post-wounds

yea thats true but its hard to guess how much damage a gun does in relation to your hp. The wiki has some answers but its weird. We just need to test it and see how everything goes I think.
I offer myself up as guinee pig, we can create different players with different skills and just get shot 10 times and take average from that, that would at least give us a general idea.

Great thread. I'm also interested in the minimum range on both rifles with the various attachments. Another thing you could research now is how the recoil pad and ammo straps affect the rate of fire which would be good info to have as well.

I performed my tests and screen-caps using a character with maxed aiming - but it seems that range among other things is affected by your aiming skill; revamp en-route this weekend. Hobbes is right on this one - damage is a tricky thing to list as all of the weapons in the game tend to have a range of "power" that's combined with all sorts of variables and a few random numbers rather than any sort of concrete damage... That said, I'll see if I can't find any way to translate that power range into possible damage values - but it may take me a long minute . You can guinea pig all you want! But I have have some more accurate, somewhat less painful method for working these things out - it's not absolutely necessary to have your friends fill you with lead, but I appreciate the offer Great thread. I'm going back to add hard stats to all the weapons - I should have all the ranges in later tonight, and I may well go back and edit the range info into the images sometime this weekend. Maybe I'll hit up the other attachments next week and make this quite simply " The Visual Guide to Firearms." Thanks for the feedback, everyone! Now go find yourself some guns

Updated the guide with weights and ranges for all weapons and attachments, and arc and relative damage modifiers for the shotguns; all statistics should be accurate for level 10 aiming - the only one that might be off (by less than 1 tile) is minimum distance. An interesting thing came up regarding the shotguns: unless I'm reading the files wrong, the shotgun will shoot 5 projectiles at 4 targets while the sawn-off lobs 6 projectiles at 4 targets. I've never heard that mentioned anywhere else before - it certainly makes the difference between the two more comprehensible. Gotta post it in the Indiestone Forums Will do - "as soon as it's ready"
