So Ive been told that the server is being reset on July 31st. This will apparently restore everything unless you backed it up with admins. So all of your nice player bases that look you countless hours, are all going to be destroyed. That means I'll never get a chance to destroy them myself, and that make me very sad. So I want to have a 1 day event on July 30th, when we turn fire on and we give the map a proper farewell. Everyone capture screenshots of bases burning. I think azzmunch in flames would be a nice screenshot. It would be fun ********<<<<<<<<<<<< This poll is closed please cast your vote here>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>**********

yea i think it would be fun. Maybe the admins might let me put a few crates around the map and they could add some firebombs to them right before it begins. Ill mark the crates poi on map and post it online few days before to let everyone know where to find them. I want to see what i didn't ever find. lol

I have to vote 'no' because it's BigBro's idea But, if we do this I suggest we make certain the backups of donor bases are done prior to the conflagration rather than after

Honestly I could just "Not wipe" if people are inclined to keeping the world as it is. This is just to clean the world up of all the floaty crap and other junk, but make a poll. If people really want to see it all stay I can leave it as is. =)
I also have to delay as I have to make a trip across state for a few days that weekend so I won't be around to perform the wipe in the first place. So it's looking like August 7th for the wipe. Plenty of time to run a poll. :3

I think more folks might be inclined to go for the wipe if it means they'll get the chance to torch some stuff. Not that there aren't plenty of servers out there with that option always available, but many have made their home here and to those folks, visiting another server just for some fire spread may feel like blasphemy. At risk of being crucified for my outlandish and controversial train of thought, I would like to humbly suggest a whole week of fire damage. from the 31st to the 7th, followed by a nice healthy purge of all that shouldn't be, might provide many who use our server on a regular basis with some much needed stress relief. Plus, it gives a chance to whoever may not be on that day, to experience the ethereal pleasures of burning their foe's base to the ground... Keep in mind that even if you do back up your base location, it IS still subject to raider attacks. Backing up your base will NOT fix burn damage accumulated throughout any fire-free-for-all time (as it's possible to grief a base just as easily with it off). \ My vote is yes on at least a day, but if Zeek is easy peasy, then let's go for broke and see how much input we can get in on a whole week's worth of fire and brimstone before then.

I don't agree with you on the 'no backup for fire damage', Hobbes. Fire spreads, which means people can end up burning down bases that they don't even know exist by virtue of the spreading fire. That's a significant increase in the potential to lose donor's bases which devalues the idea of having a backed up base in the first place. With respect to the wipe itself, however, I am thinking it may be necessary. Things don't seem to be spawning as they should. As Trashboat I've cleaned out countless West Point Garages hoping to generate some magazine spawns for folks, but I've yet to see a single one appear. I purposely cleaned the zippee mart (sp?) several times as well - that's a proven spawn for the recipe magazines in SP - with no special spawns there either. Maybe a full wipe will fix this? Who knows. Also there are a few griefed/burned areas that it would be nice to see rejuvenated

All backed up bases will be safe, and don't need to worry about this event or the restore.

A week is to long in my opinion. I feel like we will have torched everything by day 3. I would just make it a one or two day max event. If it last to long we will end up have nothing but a scourged Knox County for 3-4 days.

I'm ok with however many days of fire damage, but unfortunately the rule is and will always be: if your base get's messed up by a player, then it's your loss (wether you donate or not). sorry. don't give away your position, or build a new base where noone knows about it and change your backup location to suit. but we aren't providing a free-for-all. actions have consequences and this game is all about that. Reminds me of an old saying: "Can't stand the heat? get out of the fire" and "you play with fire, you're going to get burned." and "Don't play with matches"
It may seem harsh, but it would seem doubly unfair to those who have accepted and pursued the challenge and responsibility of keeping their backed up base safe in avoiding the drudgery of moving said location. What about the bandits who worked hard to find the base they'd like to burn down? why do they get robbed of their fun (which i assume comes from ruining people's chances at survival)? basically it boils down to this. if you want fire on, be prepared to deal with the consequences. IF enemies know where your base is, that's bad news no matter what, you might want to move anyways. If your base gets hit with a pipe bomb, even without fire spread, the damage is brutal enough to ruin your home.
You bring up a good point about spreading to unintended areas, but alas that's why we keep it off. that and well.... griefing. there are many ways to extinguish a fire and I am not sure it can spread across a whole forest. if you are living in town, it's safe to say someone will come and test it out in your area and these are all consequences of turning fire on. not something to be dismissed with the idea that admins will come in and put everything back as if it were new. (well... that will happen in the city anyways unless you've backed up POIs) but I honestly don't foresee any well-hidden bases undeservingly getting burned down and even if that were the case, there is no way to tell who got attacked and who got the brunt end of the burning stick.
Just some things to consider before jumping in on the whole, "let's torch the map with no consequences" band-wagon.

Yes, the fire can spread through the entire forest as long as a player enters the cell that the fire is burning in. If the admins are not willing to extend the backup guarantee to cover fire damage, then I absolutely vote 'no' for the 'fire spread is on' event.

Hmm your right hobbies. In that case, I have to go with trashboat and say fire spread off. Make it a week long event, so players have time to search/destroy. Players with back-up bases will just have to protect their base if not well hidden.
The another way we could go is 1 day event. Fire/spread both on. Players with player bases will have to guard them. Does fire spread up to floating bases? If not, then players could knock out anything touching the ground on their base. How far can fire spread in a day?
Should I add another poll for these two options, and see what people think?

Please Please Please read all comments in A Proper Farewell - July 30th before you vote. There are a lot of good points people make in it. This is a one time only event. Server will all be restored the next day anyways so why not make it one hell of a send off. This is a one time only event, so I urge people to make preps now. August 7th is the new date for the restore. This date isn't set in stone yet. I re-opened a new poll with two different choices. Last poll is locked at 4/1 - everyone who voted please re-vote

I'm up for the single day fire+spread/on. If chaos were to ensue, I wonder how my processor would handle it haha!
