ELECTRICITY AND WATER SHUT-OFF TESTING
We are attempting a trial run for an undecided amount of time (approximately a week or 2) to best work out the server settings that should be address with introduction of certain new items in the new build. Admins and Game-Devs thank you for your patience through these trying times.... (haha get it? "Trying" times... you see what I did there?).
We will be looking for many things in the final decision of what will be as the common standard and we are definitely taking your opinions here. Post to this thread with your thoughts and feelings but please try to be constructive. This is for all the marbles folks.

Just dropping by to say, "I have no idea what's going on in this thread." I really don't. I mean the first post makes sense and then it immediately devolves into chaos - some nonesense about killing cats, chicken salads, pipes and women... It's like a piece of some sort of surreal art. But please, carry on - confusion is a great pleasure of mine (have you ever read/watched Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead? Quality stuff, that). Hovercat is also stoked about the loss of utilities. And I, for one, welcome our floating feline overlords.

Never a fan of surrealism myself.
But on the actual topic, I'm kind of excited about this. I survive in the wilderness just fine but I'm interested in seeing how everyone handles it, and how groups survive.

"Inebriated" might be more accurate, but I'll take it XD Never a fan of surrealism myself. But on the actual topic, I'm kind of excited about this. I survive in the wilderness just fine but I'm interested in seeing how everyone handles it, and how groups survive. *cough* Returning to the real subject matter, then I am as well. There was a fair amount of argument regarding how this might negatively affect new players, but I feel it may actually end up bolstering the community - organizing and joining groups may well become a necessity, or at the very least greatly increase a player's chances of survival. Those who avoid others may have a tougher time, but those who chat and are willing to band together may thrive, and ultimately help each other to overcome the game's learning curve. Long story short, I think this will prove the multiplayer experience more true to the apocalypse that the game presents, and I really can't wait to see how it all unfolds.

Means more people on the forums! Meaning the bottlecaps will roll higher and our stock market will increase! I' I'm more fired up for tomorrow now (about the cat thing, every time a pun is posted on the thread, a cat dies. I might make a board about it someplace appropriate. So far Hobbes is commiting mass homicide. It's up to hovering feline to save his fellowmen)

(This thread's posts all wiped clean upon the start of the new dark and parched world. This was supposed to be for comments on what it has been ACTUALLY like to put up with it. gah. This is why we can't have nice things. I should'a locked this bad-boy like your parents' liquor cabinet. ) about the cat thing, every time a pun is posted on the thread, a cat dies. The ultimate pun being that I fuckin hate cats IRL.... those self-entitled jerks. And Tigers are felines, not cats.

It's fair to say that for the existing and established players, it will create a more realistic apocalyptic experience. At the same time it does undeniably make it more difficult for new players to establish themselves. Something I saw months ago before there was a working respawn system was new players coming in, complaining that everything was looted and there was no power/water, and then leaving. Some of that is to be expected, of course - there are some people who will immediately rage quit because of any number of concerns - but the idea is to strike a balance between the 'realism' of dwindling resources vs. the need to make it possible for new players to join the community. That also means new players who might not prefer to 'band together' and want to just go do their own thing, and that there are people who will prey on those new players as well which has to be taken into account before we assume that all new players have to do is find a buddy to help them out.
I can't say this really concerns me at this point, though; as the post said this is a trial run. That tells me the admins are looking for the balance I just described. I look forward to helping that process along as best I can.
