*cough* Returning to the real subject matter, then I am as well. There was a fair amount of argument regarding how this might negatively affect new players, but I feel it may actually end up bolstering the community - organizing and joining groups may well become a necessity, or at the very least greatly increase a player's chances of survival. Those who avoid others may have a tougher time, but those who chat and are willing to band together may thrive, and ultimately help each other to overcome the game's learning curve. Long story short, I think this will prove the multiplayer experience more true to the apocalypse that the game presents, and I really can't wait to see how it all unfolds. It's fair to say that for the existing and established players, it will create a more realistic apocalyptic experience. At the same time it does undeniably make it more difficult for new players to establish themselves. Something I saw months ago before there was a working respawn system was new players coming in, complaining that everything was looted and there was no power/water, and then leaving. Some of that is to be expected, of course - there are some people who will immediately rage quit because of any number of concerns - but the idea is to strike a balance between the 'realism' of dwindling resources vs. the need to make it possible for new players to join the community. That also means new players who might not prefer to 'band together' and want to just go do their own thing, and that there are people who will prey on those new players as well which has to be taken into account before we assume that all new players have to do is find a buddy to help them out.
I can't say this really concerns me at this point, though; as the post said this is a trial run. That tells me the admins are looking for the balance I just described. I look forward to helping that process along as best I can.
I absolutely agree, Ive made this point before but I also have to agree that this isnt a game for the faint hearted. I remember when you still needed to add server manually instead of having public servers that I spend sometime on a server where this was the case. Although it made the game significantly harder it wasnt impossible to survive. I got most of my bullets from zombie corpses and every now and then I'd find a can of food. Can openers and stuff like that was a whole different story, but what with the loot respawn on this server I think food supplies will actually not really decrease. Water is going to be the new currency and the hardest to aquire. This is why I still believe that the farming setts should be tweeked to have faster crops, maybe even put that on a day or so for cabbages to grow. I mean farming is still hard enough what with all the zombels running round, trampling the crops. Fresh food also takes away thirst which makes conserving water easier. We will have to see how the trial goes but Im not expecting too much change in terms of community allegiance. You got bandits, you got friendlies and you got everything in between and having no power/water will cause people to adapt, its not that hard to build a campfire and cook your water.

Here is what I've noticed so far about the changes:
Loot still respawns. So still there is really no shortage of munchies to be had out there. Orange soda, chips, canned goods and nobke importantly; flour and yeast are all still relatively easy to find. Which is good because not many folks make bread and this should help spur more cooking.
Taps still have water to drain out of the pipes. Though this wont be the case forever and Muldraugh might end up in a drought if it goes on for too long without a wipe. With no water nearby, its certainly a risk. Basically i gather that west point will never be short of bandits because survival there is possible. Relatively easy along the outskirts, while Muld will eventually get to a point where it wont matter how few bandits there are, short of moving to west point, you will die of dehydration.
As for electricity, it's really not that bad. I like that it's dark at night inside buildings and the only cooking that can be done is via bbq/campfire. This I feel is truer to the difficulty intended by game devs. Bandits dont get a free ride anymore and those who live in the woods ate already used to the darkness and campfires.
There is still lots of food to be found, but most of it is rotten garbage and once a container gets to 15items it wont respawn anything new. So some fridges will have freshly spawned produce amidst the 10 or so rotten foods. Not too bad, but without a wipe, this (like the muldraugh drought issue) will cause an uneven playing field based on the time in which one logs in. New player starts seem to be a concern for a lot of players, though the start off is currently no more difficult than it has ever been (supposing you have figured out the tricks of a decent start for your preferred style of play).
Zombies are too tough with this broken navigation thing. Being able to open a door is very different than walking right through it. So until that is fixed (by devs) i would recommend making them dumb again. Basic navigation with whatever toughness it's set at now. I took on 2 zeds with a golf club and it took me about 15mins to put em both down. Haha. While some stop moving after the first whack. Big gap and I like it. "Life is like a box of chocolates" after all.
Ultimately, these changes are working for me (as a non-admin) but they still require some tweaking. I am a stickler for organization though and randomized wipes just drive me bonkers. Haha. I think, if it were to stay like this, the server should have predetermined soft reset days (like a once a month thing) and everyone can know what's up with what and a little bit of what to expect when it comes to spawning in with a fresh char.
Personally, I would do it with 6months in game of electricity and flowing water, then 6months without. But even this would need some testing.
Otherwise, this has been great. The zombie spawning system seems to be levelling out, though bandit or buddy, city life is no cake-walk. This i think is a good thing, but only time will tell on the state of things. More notes on this to come next week. (And i might start testing some of these new events that we never got a chance to try due to thwir release just days before IWBUMS started, in these conditions by then too.)
Oh and a hard wipe once new parameters are decided, should fix any pre-established advantages. Loot will always respawn so those that leave forever on tharespawns alone, are really missing out, but good riddance. (Its a time management game, have no patience for people with no patience )

There is still a frequent loot respawn on this server, so hopefully the resource problem is not that big of a problem for new players.

Erosion did its job on the server. It used to be so pretty with mowed lawns. Been doing the deeds if not being chased by masses of zeds.

Hire The Trashboat to come and haul your refuse away Maybe we should do some community work? Ive been collecting bleach since ever. Just in case I needed a quick getaway... plus a lot of doors and windows need cleaning. Might make it my mission once I get on.
