I'm eating songs of every kinds, movies of every genres and tv series of any country everyday of my life, I will be working in the audiovisual industry so it is important for me to have a good culture when it comes to that area.
Since our players come from all around the world I wondered if you had a nice song, movie or tv serie under your sleeve that you might want to share =)
My song of the week is : Estas Tonne - Cuban Dance
A great gypsy street performer. I think he is russian, but he speaks hebrew, spanish, english, and russian(at least). He travels the world with his guitar and his incense and makes awesome songs in the heart of many cities. He shows a rare talent and it's a pleasure to listen to such a gifted guitarist.
If you like that kind of music, here's a fabulous interpretation of an Edith Piaf's song. La Foule
Movie of the week is : The Great Dictator - Charlie Chaplin 1940.
A man so famous for being Silent. An excellent actor. In this movie he acts as a Jew mistaken to be the Dictator. We all know that scene where he "dances with the globe", but it's in the final scene that we see Chaplin vocal talents at a peak. A very moving speech with powerful words. It's been 75 years now. And it feels like that speech could be said today and change a country, or the world.
Enough hippie dreaming, here's a video of the final scene(there is no version without hans zimmer's music...) :
Recent french movies worth mentioning: Intouchables(US:"The Intouchables" UK:"Untouchable") is a good moving story and "La French"(Eng:"The Connection") is based on the true story of the french connection (I believe in the 60's) and the judge that went after them. A surprisingly good movie, if you like that kind of mafia/gangster movies there is the 2 "Mesrine" movies. The story of the public ennemy n°1 of france for the record time, the man of a thousand faces. Mesrine was our "John Dillinger" national. Acted by Vincent Cassel, a french actor, know for movies like Sheitan, Blueberry and La Haine(that last one deserves a paper on itself, this movie is glorious).
About the TV series... That's the whole point of my post, I've come to a point where I think I've watched it all. I've been around countless american shows and japaneese animes, satyric cartoons, british BBC shows... And now I'm watching "The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack". It's a Cartoon Network production made by Thurop Van Orman. I think it's a cartoon made for pre-teens, maybe between 9-12.
But I love it, it might be candid but, when I was a kid I liked spongebob, not the abnoxious voices and the overused jokes, it was the graphism and that bit of madness. Remember when in some episodes you'd have a close up on bob's face with a crap-ton of details? Well Flapjack is all about that black graphism and the dubbing of voices is just magic. Anyway, enough said:
Here's an awesome website where you can find most cartoons in english, subbed or dubbed, for all ages, from Dora to Ghost in the Shell.
