(Skip reading this part if you want the story: I was writing an amateur-ish book for fun and playing in this server gave me a few bits of inspiration. The pic above was the book cover for the second book Gone by Night writing is in progress.)
This is a short one, guys. I hope you like it. :-)
1: Running Blind
"Help, let me in," The man behind the door said while simultaneously banging on the door and twisting its knob. A quick response came from an unseen group of zeds just by the outer right corner of the church. He let out a terrible squeal after hearing the horrifying herd. He suddenly stopped and I heard running to the left. I quickly ran to the nearest door (which was the only one unlocked) and opened it before he does first.
"Shit," I mumbled after seeing a man bleeding from his left arm and a small group of about four to five zeds chasing him. Adrenaline caused my heart to pump blood that it almost made my ears burst. I took some distance from the entrance and tightened my lips and said, "get in, I'll chase them away."
Without wasting any second, he literally jumped inside the building and slammed the door. They ignored me and pounded on the door instead. I raised my hand gun to one of the zed's head and took fire. Two bullets remain. They all snapped their jaundiced heads towards me and shuffled forward. I backed up with my gun still raised slowly to count the small herd. Seven heads is to two bullets. I took a quick look behind me and jumped as I saw an 8th member of the group. My reflexes were quick even if it was only about 6 in the morning so I shoved the lone zed down to its back and hopped away from its body. I took a running pace while glancing at the small group of biters. Many emerged from the trees and houses that surrounded the church. I made my way to the street and past the church's main entrance. Some lost me already. It must be the bite of winter that slowed them down. I raised my gun once more to take aim at one of the nearest zeds. I need to lead them away from one the few working safe-houses left in West Point. I may waste a bullet especially from the range I've gone but it was well worth it. It was the last round I had for free anyway. The other one was well for a selfish escape from inevitable torment. I gently squeezed the trigger but before I was able to push through, a gunshot rang.
The zeds turned away from me and pin-pointed the location of the shot. They all headed to the church and suddenly lost interest in me. I felt my face turn pale. I suddenly realized that I have made the stupidest decision in my entire life. Why the hell would I let a stranger in while my best friend lies senseless.

2: Gun Point
I heard the heavy pumping of blood behind my ears as my vision flickered in and out. Small heaves contracted my stomach and my chest raised irregularly. A stir of emotions clouded my sanity and my tears were its rain. Only a scream that bellowed deep in my abdomen roared through the walls of this god forsaken land. I continued to scream and the horde responded with gut-wrenching gurgles that vibrated from rotten tissue. My gun found its way to my trembling hands as I gripped it like it was the tip of a sinking boat and squeezed the trigger even after it shot thin air. The final led-head hit nothing in particular but it was enough to let the undead know that I was to be dealt with. Blank stares from dilated irises pierced through my soul but a cloak of anger became the foundation to my will. Accident or not, mistakes in the new world easily meant death - that I will not hesitate to deliver.I charged through the undead with a battle cry. Wind behind my feet and force between my fingers as I pushed the closest ones aside. The collision left me miraculously unscathed when I finally went through but I had no time to thank grace. I forcefully turned the door's knob and slammed it shut. I saw the bloodied man that sought refuge lying motionless on the church's floor and a fazed Tyler bleeding through his wrist while holding a gun . He looked at me with wide eyes - his skin was as pale as cement. We were practically looking at our reflections through each other.
"He fucking bit me," he said in between sobs. "How did he manage to turn so fast?"
"Tyler," I said choking back the tears that threatened to pour. Pounding on the door that my back desperately stopped from opening grew stronger. "I'm so sorry," I whispered but his eyes looked anywhere but mine.
"We need to get out," He said. He wrapped his belt around the infected arm, holstered his gun, and grabbed his crowbar. "Keep that door from opening, run when I open the main door."
Powerful strikes landed on the planks that kept the main door from opening. My back and my heels ached as I desperately fought the push of a dozen zeds. In no time, each piece of wood fell to the ground. Tyler looked at me and nodded. He turned both handles of the wide gate-styled door and swung them open. Light swallowed the dim corners of the church and thick air dispersed into the wide outdoors. Tyler and I sprang from our positions and ran as fast as we could. Far... far away from the last fortress we'll ever occupy.

3: Finally Here
3: Finally Here
"Ethan... I," Tyler trailed off. His weight grew heavier and heavier, I was basically carrying him. It wasn't easy since he was way taller than I am. His whole body was cold but his forehead felt like it could cause a burn. Sweat dropped from every inch of his skin as if he'd been under the summer sun. It was difficult to maneuver past the growing herd that heard the gunshots. I could say we've been lucky if Tyler wasn't....
I shook my head and concentrated on carrying his weight. Tyler had just gulped the last drop of water from our supply but it wasn't helping him much. I looked behind me to see if the zed that tailed us gave up but it was clever enough to follow my sharp turns past alleyways and backyards. "We should rest there, just a while," Tyler pleaded as he pointed at a two story brick house. "Damn it man, just hold on," I said surprisingly composed. "Please, my legs burn," he continued. I stopped us for a moment.
"Alright. Only if you agree not to fall asleep," I asked. Part of me ached after asking the inevitable.
"Not making any promises," he stated then he chuckled. It was a bad joke but I couldn't help but smile. "Now stay there," I said as I laid him on the porch. "I'm not your dog, you know," he retracted but I didn't respond. Vines climbed up through the crevices of the brick walls as if they were trying to reach the heavens that every living man coveted in this pit. I tried the back door but I had no luck so a broken glass window next to the back door that immediately led to the stairs was my only point of entrance. I peered inside the house and garbage lay waste all over the carpeted floor. Just a couple months into the apocalypse and every house is already trashed. I slowly entered through the window avoiding the sharp pieces of glass that protruded the window frame. Whatever broke this window could still be inside so I raised my make-shift spear made out of a mop stick and a kitchen knife. Instead of being greeted by a zed or an animal, a metal box that hung at the far corner of the house emitted a beeping noise and a flashing beam of red.
"Shit."
The alarm wailed as loud as it could be. Announcing the intrusion to all of the undead predators that we tried so hard to ward off. "Ethan," yelled Tyler from behind the front door. I sprinted towards the him and grabbed his weakened body. "I got you," I said. A horde followed close behind. I dragged the both of us towards the back door as fast as I could. I swung the door open when a zed lunged in time to grab Tyler. The monster almost pinned him down but he remained sturdy as he could. "Tyler," I yelled as I pulled him away from the zed. He wreathed against the zed's grip but pulled me towards him afterwards. He pushed me towards the stairs with most of his remaining energy just before another zed managed to grab me through the window. I looked at him and I feared for his life. He did not flinch and his eyes were locked on mine. He didn't say anything until the monster that held him greedily took a chunk of flesh from his shoulder. He did his best to muffle his wails and when it was too much, he raised his gun and embraced his demise. The gunshot mixed with the sounds of the approaching hoard and the alarm. Chaos ensued but I shook it away the best I could.
I ran towards the second floor only to collide with the zed that broke the window. It snarled at me as I backed up. My lips trembled like never before and tears streamed uncontrollably down my blood-splattered face. Fear and sadness consumed me and I felt like there was no coming back. I pushed the snarling abomination aside and sprinted straight towards the window behind it.
***
Pain pulsated throughout my body. It was beyond my comprehension: it felt somewhat sensational yet on the same time crippled by agony. I wanted to pass out... I wanted to die.
Moments later, when the sun started to set, I could hear footsteps coming towards me followed by a soft groan. I really wished I saved that last bullet.
EDIT: Plot Hole! On Running Blind it says "... the bite of winter" then on Finnaly Here it says "... summer sun" I apologize for the shit ass writing. Fixed
